Klein Family Field

Klein Family Field

Beginning in 2006, Klein Family Field is the new home of the Pacific Tigers baseball team. The first on-campus home for the Tigers, Klein Family Field was made possible by a generous donation from the Klein family. Synonymous with baseball in Stockton, the Klein Family donation allowed the Tigers to begin construction on a new baseball complex at the University to be known as Klein Family Field. The facility, which includes a new playing field, practice field and stands. It is located at the Pershing/Alpine Avenue corner of campus, where a multipurpose athletic playing field is currently located.

"We feel very excited and fortunate that a gracious local family (the Kleins) would be honored to put their name on a stadium that we feel is going to be the cornerstone for bringing Pacific Baseball to the next level," said Pacific Tigers baseball Head Coach Ed Sprague.

Family patriarch Sol Klein came to Stockton in 1917 and soon became the father of youth baseball here. He established a 16-team grammar school league, donating uniforms and equipment to poor children; helped found Little League Baseball in Stockton and was one of the founders and first president of the Stockton Baseball Club, now the Stockton Ports. His son, Bud Klein, played baseball for Pacific and then Stanford before being drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 1950. While Bud did not pursue a major league baseball career, he has brought the University great honor by entrusting to it the education of numerous family members.

Bob Corkern, a spokesman for the Klein family, says the gift to Pacific's baseball program is prompted as much by their enthusiasm for the University as it is their love of the game.

University of the Pacific Director of Athletics Lynn King believes the community will also benefit from the new baseball complex. Summer camps and youth leagues will be able to use the facilities when not used by the University, and the ability to host college tournaments and playoffs is expected to bring economic benefits to local business.

Klein Family Field will hold a capacity of 2,500 spectators. The field dimensions are 317 feet down the left field line, 380 feet at the left field power alley, 395 feet to straightaway center field, 367 feet at the right field power alley and 325 feet down the right field line.
