Magee Selected for NCAA Leadership Institute for Ethnic Minority Males and Females
May 30, 2008 Stockton, Calif. - Derrick N. Magee, the Assistant Director of Athletics for Finance and Internal Affairs at the University of the Pacific, has been selected to participate in the 2008 - 09 NCAA Leadership Institute for Ethnic Minority Males and Females. Magee is one of thirteen males and twenty-three total participants in this year's class. The Leadership Institute for Ethnic Minority Males and Females (the Institute) was designed to address the critical shortage of senior-level professionals of color in athletics administrative staff at NCAA member institutions and within conference offices. The Institute prepares diverse leaders through a 12-month leadership training and skills development experience and enhance job-related competencies in selected areas through completion of four professional development sessions, practical work and a week-long intensive workshop. Magee has just completed his second year with the Pacific Intercollegiate Athletic Department. His responsibilities include the day-to-day business and financial operations of the department, box office, event management, and facilities. Magee is a member of the senior management staff and oversees all of the aquatic programs within the department. Magee's tenure in athletics began at Florida A&M University, where he played men's basketball helping the Rattlers to its first ever NCAA Tournament appearance. After his eligibility ended, Derrick began working within the Rattler athletic department as the men's basketball assistant coach and athletic business manager. In 2002, Magee completed an internship with the NBA's Orlando Magic working in the Business Development Department. Magee has his B.S. degree from Florida A&M University, M.B.A. from California State University, Stanislaus, and will complete his Ed.D. in Higher Education Administration from Pacific in the Fall of 2009. |
