STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pacific Athletic Department launched its new Read-to-Win Program last week. The purpose of the program is to encourage second grade students to read during a four week period from October 22nd to November 12. As a part of the program, Pacific student-athletes visited local elementary schools including Claudian Landeen, Brookside Elementary and Aspire Elementary read to the second grade students.
As an incentive, each participating second grader received a Read-to-Win Program sign-up form, a bookmark, and two free tickets to the Pacific women's soccer game against UC Santa Barbara.
"Every time I go to the elementary schools and read to the students, it makes me want to be in education and really impact those kids' lives on a daily basis," said junior field hockey student-athlete Sasha Larsen.
Second grade students who successfully read 10 books during the duration of the program will receive two free tickets to attend any Pacific athletic event of their choice. In addition, they will receive two free tickets to the Pacific men's basketball game against Sacramento State on Wednesday, Nov. 21. Pacific Intercollegiate Athletics will welcome and recognize each of the Read-to-Win Program winners at that game.
