Positions are still open for the 2009-10 Tiger Dance Team!
The Pacific Athletic Department is seeking new members for the 2009-10 Tiger Dance Team. Individuals who are interested should contact Head Coach Cristy Yadon at 209-946-2702 to schedule a personal audition or to submit a video. All candidates are encouraged to contact Cristy as soon as possible as spots on the team are limited.

If you are sending in a DVD, it must include the following:

  • An across the floor segment not limited to, but including turns, leaps and kicks
  • Two routines showcasing your talents and style preference
  • An interview in which you answer the question "why do you want to be part of the Tiger Dance Team, and what positive attributes would you bring to the team."
  • Please submit the tryout information forms along with your DVD.

    Who are the Tiger Dancers
    The Tiger Dancers bring a tremendous amount of energy to each and every Pacific home game! Modeled after professional NBA & NFL dance teams, the Tiger Dancers perform all styles of dance, for example hip hop, jazz, straight arm pom, novelty, etc. The Dance Team learns routines to music by the Pacific Pep Band and recorded music for basketball half-time performances.

    Squad members must also be familiar with cheerleading arm motions and be able to work with pom poms for a majority of the band dances and cheers. Tumbling is not required. The Tiger Dancers are also an important public relations tool for the University and the Tiger Dancers exude a tremendous amount of enthusiasm and school spirit as they promote the Pacific Athletic program.

    The Tiger Dancers are chosen based on dance ability, style and showmanship. Team Members must be fulltime undergraduate or graduate students and have a minimum 2.0 grade point average.The dance team gives an opportunity for members interested in choreography to showcase their material at performances. Dance team members need to purchase specified dance shoes and nylons/tights for performances. All other uniform items are provided.

    Members of the 2009-10 Tiger Dance team are encouraged to attend the 2009 USA College/Pro Resort Camp in Anahiem from July 31-August 2 and/or the UDA Camp in Santa Barbara August 7-9.

    What is the Tiger Dancers season and practice schedule?
    The Tiger Dancers will begin their year in late August. The team performs from September to March attending home women's volleyball, men's and women's basketball games. The season ends in March with the Big West Tournament and the Tiger Dancers will continue supporting the teams through the post-season when the Tigers advance to the NCAA or NIT tournaments. Members will also be participating in a mini-camp during the fall which includes a private dance camp. The squad practices Monday nights from 6-9 p.m. and Tuesday nights from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Dance Studio on the Pacific Campus.

    Cristy was a four year member of the Tiger Dancers and team captain during the 2008-09 season. Cristy graduated Cum Laude, from Pacific with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and will be attending Graduate School at Pacific in the Fall 2009 where she will also serve as a Graduate Assistant in the Athletic Marketing Department. In addition to her experience as a Tiger Dancer, Cristy trained and performed with S.S. Dance Express dance studio (now known as Triple Threat Performing Arts) in Livermore and competed with the studio for eight years in regional and national competitions. She has also performed in and been dance captain in numerous musicals and plays.

    How do the Tiger Dancers balance their academic requirements?
    The Tiger Dancers are committed to balancing their academic requirements along with their practice and game schedules during the course of the school year. During the 2008-09 season six members of the dance team were named Big West Scholar Athletes and were selected to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. The Tiger Dancers have maintained a consistent GPA of over a 3.0. In addition, the Pacific Athletic Department also sends out grade checks twice a semester to their professors in order to review their academic progress.

    For the past four seasons, the Tiger Dancers have also mentored a number of young girls and future dancers during the Jr. Dance Clinic. The dance clinic has averaged over 70 kids from around the region who have participated in this all day clinic. They work directly with the Tiger Dancers and then perform during halftime of a Pacific Men's Basketball game. Thank you to all those who participated in our record setting event held on January 24, 2009. We look forward to having you back next year!
