Pacific Tigers Spirit Squad

The goal of the Pacific Spirit Squad is to promote Tiger Pride throughout the University and the community by supporting the Athletic Department, the student body, and the University. The Spirit Squad showcases their skills and talents at numerous events, University activities and community functions. These individuals are an integral part of the Athletic Department and serve in large part, as public relations ambassadors.

The Spirit Squad is composed of the Cheer & Stunt Team, the Tiger Dancers, and our mascot, Power Cat. Each student athlete plays a vital role in the Spirit Squad, and contributes a great deal of time and energy to achieving a high level of excellence both on and off the court.

Last but not least, the Pacific Spirit Squad is all about having fun, creating new friends and memories, and having the best possible college experience!

    Tiger Dancers

    Don't miss this exciting opportunity to perform and dazzle Pacific fans at all home men's and women's basketball games and women's volleyball matches. The Tiger Dancers are under the direction of former 49er Gold Rush Girl Jenise Fitzpatrick. The Tiger Dancers bring a tremendous amount of energy to each and every Pacific home game - be part of this experience and be a Tiger Dancer!

    2007-08 Dance Team Clinic & Try-out Information

    Dance Clinic - Saturday, April 14th The Pacific Tigers dance team will be holding an open clinic for individuals who are interested in learning more about the Tiger Dancers. The clinic will be held on Saturday, April 14th from 12 Noon to 2 p.m. in the Baun Fitness Center Dance Studio and will be hosted by Tiger Dancer Head Coach Jenise Fitzpatrick.

    Open Tryout - Sunday, April 22nd The Tiger Dancers will holding their official tryout on Sunday, April 22nd from 11:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Baun Fitness Center Dance Studio. The tryout will feature guest chorography and the current Director of San Jose Saber Kittens Teri Schafer.

    What to Wear to the Tryout:
    Candidates are asked to wear:

  • dance pants
  • tight fitting top (leotard, full-length sports bra) in order to see body lines and positioning - no midriffs please.
  • Dance shoes or dance sneakers
  • Please wear appropriate hair for game-day, but not in a ponytail
  • stage/game-ready/TV-ready make-up
  • please remove any jewelry or body piercing
  • no ribbons or bows
  • no food or gum
  • overall clean, mature and collegiate presentation

    Students Who Cannot Attend Tryout
    Current or new Pacific Students who are interested in becoming a Tiger Dancers but not able to attend the tryout or are out of the region can submit a Video or DVD.

    If you are sending in a VHS tape or DVD, it must include the following:

  • An across the floor segment not limited to, but including turns, leaps and kicks
  • Two routines showcasing your talents and style preference
  • An interview in which you answer the question "why do you want to be part of the Tiger Dance Team, and what positive attributes would you bring to the team."
  • Please submit the tryout information forms along with your DVD or tape.

    Who are the Tiger Dancers?
    The Tiger Dancers perform on the sidelines during volleyball and basketball season and they are featured in halftime as well as timeout routines during basketball games. The Tiger Dancers are also an important public relations tool for the University so individuals are expected to exude a tremendous amount of enthusiasm and school spirit as they promote the Pacific athletic program.

    Tiger Dancers are chosen based on dance ability, style and showmanship. Team members perform all styles of dance, for example hip hop, jazz, straight arm pom, novelty, etc. The Dance Team learns routines to music by the Pacific Pep Band and recorded music for basketball half-time performances. Squad members must also be familiar with cheerleading arm motions and be able to work with pom poms for a majority of the band dances and cheers. Tumbling is not required. Members must be fulltime undergraduate or graduate students and have a minimum 2.0 grade point average.

    The dance team gives an opportunity for members interested in choreography to showcase their material at performances. Dance team members need to purchase specified dance shoes and nylons/tights for performances. All other uniform items are provided.

    The Tiger Dancers also have the opportunity to mentor a number of young girls and future dancers during the Jr. Dance Clinic which is held in February. Over 70 kids from around the region have participated in this all day clinic and work directly with the members of the Tiger Dance Team.

    What is the Tiger Dancers season and practice schedule?
    The Tiger Dancers will begin their year in late August. The team performs from September to March attending home women's volleyball, men's and women's basketball games. The season ends in March with the Big West Tournament and the Tiger Dancers will continue supporting the teams through the post-season when the Tigers advance to the NCAA or NIT tournaments. Members will also be participating in a mini-camp during the fall which includes a private dance camp. The squad practices every Monday night from 5-8 p.m. and Wednesday night from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Dance Studio on the Pacific Campus.

    Head Coach Jenise Fitzpatrick:
    Jenise Fitzpatrick begins her third season as head coach of the Tiger Dancers and coordinator of the Jr. Tiger Dance Clinic. Jenise enjoyed a very successful career as a professional cheerleader prior to coming to Pacific. She spent five seasons a San Francisco 49ers Gold Rush Girl and was the team captain for two years. Jenise also spent two seasons with the San Jose SaberCats of the Arena Football League. Jenise also works extensively with E2K Entertainment groups and has helped choreograph a number of NFL halftime productions including the 2007 Pro Bowl in Hawai'i.

    She has also served as the dance coordinator on NFL tours around the worked and has worked with Dallas Cowboys, the Atlanta Falcons, St. Louis Rams, Oakland Raiders, Miami Dolphins, Tennessee Titans and the San Diego Chargers. She was also the assistant producer for the AFC and NFC championship game halftime shows. She has been a judge at both the collegiate and high school level for the United Spirit Association for five years. Jenise also spent five seasons as head coach for both the cheer and dance programs at San Jose State University.

    Pacific Cheer Squad

    2007-08 Tryout Information
    The Pacific Tiger Cheerleading team will be having a one day clinic on April 14th in the South Campus gym (next to the Dance Studio) starting at 8:30 am. The clinic will be from 8:30 till about 12:30 pm. The tryout portion will start at 2 pm. Participants are asked to wear athletic shoes, hair back and out of face and dress (to impress) in Pacific colors; black, orange, white (and grey is acceptable.) Also, if you are under 18, please make sure to bring a parent to sign your wavier.

    When does the Pacific Cheer Squad perform?
    During the fall and winter sports season, the Cheer Squad can be seen at various intercollegiate sporting events on campus including women's volleyball, men's and women's basketball. The most active sports season for the Pacific Cheer Squad is in the winter. They attend all men's and women's basketball games played on Thursday and Saturday nights, leading the crowd in cheers during the game and at time-outs, as well as, performing at half-time.

    In March, the team travels to the Big West Conference Tournament and will continue supporting the teams through the post-season when the Tigers advance to the NCAA or NIT tournaments. The spring season the Cheer Squad will dedicate this time to prepare for the following year.

    When is the Pacific Cheer Squad practice schedule?
    The Cheer Squad practices Monday evenings from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday evenings from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Wednesday evenings from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. The squad is also responsible for attending assigned intercollegiate sporting events during the semester.
