JUNIOR (2004)

Erik grew into one of the Tigers' most valuable weapons out of the bullpen in 2004 as he gradually assumed the setup role for Pacific. Barbic finished the season with an impressive 3.65 ERA, but his numbers were even better in Big West Conference play as he posted a team-best 2.59 ERA in 13 appearances. Erik did not allow a run in 3.1 innings of relief in the Tigers' two victories over UC Santa Barbara on May 14th (4-3) and 15th (5-4) . Barbic's best series may have come against #8 Long Beach State as he allowed just one run on three hits in 5.1 innings of relief work against the 49ers. Barbic collected his first victory as a Tiger in Pacific's 10-9 win over UC Riverside on April 30th. In that contest, Erik tossed a perfect inning of relief. The next day, May 1st, he came back with 3.2 innings of one-hit relief as the Tigers fell 9-8 to the Highlanders. Erik pitched two innings of scoreless relief in the Tigers' 16-5 loss to #9 UC Irvine on April 24th. Barbic shut down the Cal St. Fullerton Titans in the Tigers' three game series, throwing a combined two shutout innings with one strikeout in two appearances.

JUNIOR COLLEGE

Barbic joined the Tigers in 2003 after two years at West Valley Junior College in Saratoga, Calif. Primarily a reliever for the Vikings, Barbic posted a combined record of 11-3 with five saves in two seasons at West Valley. In 2003, he helped the Vikings finish with a 28-13 overall record, placing first in the Coast Conference. Barbic also excelled in the classroom, earning academic honors in each semester at West Valley JC.

HIGH SCHOOL

Erik graduated from Harbor High School in Santa Cruz, Calif. in 2000. Barbic earned a combined five letters as a Pirate, two in baseball and three in basketball. Following his senior season, Erik was named the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League (SCCAL) Pitcher of the Year as he had a 7-2 record with three saves and a 1.40 ERA. Barbic was named to consecutive All-SCCAL teams in his two seasons with the Pirates.
