2010 (Junior):
Matthew excelled in his first season with the Tigers. He posted an OBP of .352 and a slugging percentage of .372 on the season. His .303 batting average ranks fourth-best among returners and Carvutto also tallied five multi-hit games, including going 3-for-4 twice on Feb. 27 in Pacific's 6-4 victory over Nevada, and then again in conference play in the Tigers 11-7 offensive barrage at UC Davis on May 9. As a hitter, Carvutto appeared in 30 games, started 27 times and compiling 99 at-bats. Carvutto also pitched 2.1 innings, walking and striking out one each. His two appearances as a pitcher occurred on Mar. 13 against Bradley in San Antonio, Texas, and also April 6 at Santa Clara.
Sophomore (Palomar College):
A transfer from Palomar College in San Marcos, Calif., Carvutto and the Comets turned in a 36-13 overall record. Upon completion of a spectacular season, Carvutto was named First Team All-Pacific Coast Conference, hitting .352 on the year. Matt tallied 12 doubles and three home runs to add to his team-leading 43 RBI over the course of 43 games and 38 starts in right field. Carvutto combined for a stellar .497 slugging percentage that exploded to .627 in conference play.
Freshman (Cal State Northridge):
In his first season of Division I baseball, Carvutto spent his freshman year playing in the Big West Conference at Cal State Northridge, hitting .294 over the span of 13 games. In 17 at bats, Matt connected for five hits, chipped in three runs and tallied three RBI as a freshman.
High School:
A 2007 graduate of Poway High School, Matt was a two-year letterwinner in baseball. In 2007, Carvutto and the Titans finished with a 25-9 record in the San Diego Section. In 34 games played as a senior, Carvutto compiled a .273 batting average in 34 total games, driving in 17 RBI with three doubles and two home runs. As a junior, Matt helped his team to a CIF championship in 2006 after posting a 23-12 mark on the season. Carvutto capped off that season hitting .333 on the year.
Personal:
Matthew Carvutto was born in Poway, Calif., and is the son of Tom and Cindy Carvutto. Matt has two siblings, Tony (17) and Amy (14). In his second year at Pacific, Carvutto is studying business administration.
