2010 (Junior):
Jake appeared in 22 games as a pitcher in 2010, taking the hill as a starter in 13 contests. In 93.0 innings pitched, Hummel recorded 57 strikeouts and walked 25. On March 14 in the championship round of the Irish Baseball Classic against Notre Dame, Hummel pitched eight complete scoreless innings that included only one walk and six strikeouts in the final 3-2 win. From there, Jake solidified his rightful claim as Pacific's Sunday starter. The righty went on to become one of three Tiger pitchers with seven or more wins on the year, compiling an impressive 7-4 record in 2010. In Hummel's final game of the season he recorded eight strikeouts and walked one in an impressive 7.0 inning performance against UC Santa Barbara on May 30. Hummel did double duty in his first few games with the Tigers, starting out as the designated hitter. At the plate, Jake posted a .375 batting average in three contests before moving into a starting pitching role.

Previous School (Scottsdale Community College):
Hummel graduated from Scottsdale CC in 2009, as the Fighting Artichokes placed second at the NJCAA World Series last season, where he secured his name on the World Series All-Tournament team. Jake took the mound during the elimination round in the NJCAA World Series and helped his team advance after knocking off the No. 1 team in Division II of the NJCAA, LSU Eunice, 9-1. In that game, Jake went 7.0 innings, allowing only one earned run off of eight hits. In 2008, he finished 12th in ERA in the National Junior College Athletics Association for Division II. In 2008, Scottsdale CC finished third in the NJCAA Division II National Tournament. In the summer of 2008, Jake played club ball for the Santa Maria Valley Packers alongside current Tiger, Tye Davis.

High School:
A 2007 graduate of Peoria High School, Jake earned five letters as a two-sport athlete in baseball (four) and basketball (one). Hummel capped off his senior year on the baseball team as he was named the Region Player of the Year. Prior to that award, Jake was named First Team All-Region twice as a sophomore and junior, and he started the awards off as a freshman, earning Second Team All-Region accolades.

Personal:
Jacob Hummel was born in Glendale, Ariz., and is the son of Jeff and Julie Hummel. He has one younger brother, Jared (18). In his spare time, Jake enjoys hiking, golfing, camping and playing basketball. In his second year at Pacific, Hummel is studying engineering.
