JUNIOR (2004)

One of the rising stars for Pacific, Schmidt broke Pacific's record for appearances in one season as he took the ball 33 times for Pacific in 2004. He also tied the school record for saves in a season as he finished 2004 with seven saves. Schmidt's seven saves tied him with former Tigers Mark Short (1999) and Andy Willick (2003). Josh's 33 appearances broke Short's record of 31 games in 1999. Schmidt finished the 2004 campaign with a 3.67 ERA and sent 73 opposing batters back to the bench via the strikeout. He allowed just 22 earned runs in 54 innings and surrendered just 21 walks last season. In addition, Schmidt finished tied for the team lead with five victories in 2004 as he posted a 5-3 record. Josh earned his fourth and fifth victories of the season against UC Santa Barbara as he tossed two innings of scoreless relief in the Tigers' 4-3 10-inning win over the Gauchos on May 14th. The next day, May 15th, Schmidt surrendered one run on two hits in 1.2 innings, but got the win as Aaron Harper hit a walk-off blast in the bottom of the ninth to lead the Tigers to a 5-4 win. Schmidt worked a combined three innings of scoreless relief in two appearances against #8 Long Beach State on May 8th and 9th. Josh tied the single season Pacific record with his seventh save of the year in Pacific's 10-9 win over UC Riverside on April 30th as he held the Highlanders to two runs in the final 2.1 innings. Schmidt grabbed his sixth save by recording the final two outs of the Tigers' 2-1 upset victory over #9 UC Irvine on April 23rd. Schmidt chalked up five punch outs against Nevada on March 23rd, going two innings with one run on two hits as the Tigers fell 12-11 in 11 innings. Schmidt recorded save number five in Pacific's 12-7 win over Lafayette on March 20th, tossing two innings of shutout relief. Schmidt's first save as a Tiger came in Pacific's 5-4 win over Washington State on Feb. 15th as he pitched two innings of shutout ball, while striking out four batters. Schmidt nabbed his first win over Northwestern on Feb. 12th, pitching 2/3 of an inning, allowing one run on two hits while striking out two.

JUNIOR COLLEGE

Schmidt transferred to Pacific in 2003 after two years at Citrus College in Glendora, Calif. As a member of the Owls, Schmidt posted a combined record of 12-5 in two seasons. In 2003, he led the Owls to a 32-12 record as he was 9-4 on the season, helping his squad share the Western States Conference (WSC) title. The previous year, Schmidt was 3-1 as the Owls finished 2002 with a 33-12 overall record. For his performance in 2003, Josh was named to the All-WSC Second Team.

HIGH SCHOOL

Josh graduated from La Salle High School in Pasadena, Calif. in 2001. Schmidt led the Lancers to the State Playoffs during each of his final three years at La Salle HS. La Salle posted a combined 27-3 record in the Sante Fe League during Schmidt's sophomore, junior and senior seasons.

PERSONAL

Joshua Schmidt was born on November 14, 1982 and is the son of Ben and Toreen Schmidt. In his second year with Pacific, Josh is majoring in communication.
