We took one game from Stanford on Friday night, but lost both Saturday and Monday's games. On Friday, we had a huge 9 run fifth inning where we took advantage of some Stanford errors to put us way ahead and it was enough to hold on for the win. It was nice to be on the other end of a big ugly inning. Waldron threw pretty well until the fifth and then Larry Holscher stepped up and carried us with a good outing from the pen. On Saturday even though we lost, Longmire got his first home run as a Tiger. On Sunday, coach gave Neimeyer the nod for his first start of the year, but it did not go as well as we had hoped. Joey Centanni, however, made his first appearance of the season on the mound and even though his mechanics didn't feel exactly right, he found ways to get outs and had a solid outing of relief.
This was our first week not having a mid-week game, so it felt a little different having three practices in a row. We focused a lot on our offense this week in practice, so hopefully our bats will be hot this weekend. We went over to Coach Sprague's house with the softball team on Tuesday night for dinner. Coach had excellent tri-tip sandwiches and ravioli for us to eat. It was fun to get everyone together and build some team chemistry before we begin conference play this weekend against UC Davis. Hopefully having a fresh start going into conference will give us a good mindset to get back on track and turn our season around. We take on the Aggies on Friday at 2 PM, Saturday at 1 PM and Sunday at 1 PM. Next week we will be traveling to Santa Clara on Wednesday to face them at their park at 6 PM. Hope everyone had a great Easter.
