Joey Centanni Named Co-Big West Pitcher of the Week

April 17, 2006

Irvine, Calif. - Pacific freshman hurler Joey Centanni (San Diego, Calif.) earned Co-Big West Pitcher of the Week honors, announced on Monday, April 17.

Centanni posted the Tigers first complete game victory of the season in a 2-1 on Friday, April 14. Centanni needed just 95 pitches to defeat the Gauchos, and did not surrender a walk in the contest. He spread out four hits over the nine innings and gave up just one run while striking out four. Centanni retired 18 of the final 19 UCSB batters, including 17 in a row from the 3rd through the 9th inning.

For Centanni, it is his first Big West Pitcher of the Week award, and marks the second time a Pacific freshman has earned the honor this season. Ty'Relle Harris (Fairfield, Calif.) claimed the award on February 27.

Long Beach St. pitcher Andrew Carpenter also shared the award after posting a complete game at Cal State Northridge in a 5-1 49er victory.

The Tigers open up their new on-campus home, Klein Family Field, on Tuesday, April 18 as they take on Nevada. First pitch is scheduled for 2pm.
