It was another frustrating weekend of conference play for us last weekend. We dropped all three to UC Riverside, two of them by only one run. Longmire was red hot on Friday and Saturday going 6-7 at the plate. On Friday, we out hit UCR by 5 hits, but we gave up two in the top of the ninth could not answer in the bottom half of the inning.

McCain battled again for us going 8.1 innings allowing 7 earned runs. Saturday was a slug fest with a total of 28 runs being scored in the game. 19 of them, however, belonged to UCR as they took the second game of the series. It was really a closer game than the scoreboard dictated as we trailed only by three runs for most of the game. We did a pretty good job answering them every time they put up runs, but their seven run top of the ninth blew the game out of reach.

On Sunday, our offense was backed by home runs from Wideman and St. Urbain to give us a good five run cushion going into the seventh, but UCR put up six in the top of the seventh and we couldn't find a way to recover form the blow, suffering our third loss of the series. Waldron was back to his normal self going 6.1 innings allowing just 5 earned runs. The Berolzheimer family had the team over to their house for a delicious BBQ on Sunday evening. The food was great as we enjoyed ribs, chicken and pesto pasta.

This week offered no break for us after the weekend series, as we headed to Stanford on Monday night. We had nine hits in the game, but only managed to push two across the plate as Stanford turned four double plays against us. Hunter Carnevale had a very good outing from the pen throwing three shutout innings to keep us in the game with a chance to come back.

Tuesday was off for us and it was the last day of classes before finals. Wednesday night we were back in action taking on Santa Clara at home. We blasted three home runs in the game, two of which came in the second inning. Longmire extended his hitting streak to 11 games and we had solid pitching on the hill. Santa Clara had a couple big innings, but our consistent run production proved to hold out for us and gave us the win.

This weekend we head down to UC Irvine to take on the #13 Anteaters. They are having a good year under their new coach Mike Gillespie as they are 31-12 overall. Have a good weekend.
