
Stolp and Jackson selected on Day One of the MLB Amateur Draft
June 6, 2006 Stockton, Calif. Pacific seniors Eric Stolp (Oakhurst, Calif.) and Anthony Jackson (Modesto, Calif.) were drafted on the first day of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft on Tuesday, June 6. Stolp was selected with the 416th overall pick (14th Round) by the San Francisco Giants. A four-year player at Pacific, Eric finished his final season with the Tigers with by leading Pacific with four saves in 2006. Eric was 3-2 on the season and finished his career with a 7-14 record. Stolp appeared in 22 games, all out of the bullpen in 2006, closing the season with a 4.71 ERA. With a fastball that can reach into the mid 90's, Eric recorded 101 strikeouts in 141 innings at Pacific. Stolp will report to Arizona for mini-camp within the next week and expects to pitch for San Francisco's short-season A team, the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in Salem, Oregon. Jackson was selected with the 468th overall pick (16th Round) by the Colorado Rockies. Jackson played his final two seasons of collegiate baseball at Pacific, after spending two seasons at Modesto JC. Anthony earned All-Big West Honorable Mention following the 2006 season as he posted a .289 batting average in 47 games. Jackson led the Tigers with 16 stolen bases in both 2005 and 2006. A switch hitter, Jackson is the only Tiger, to have homered from both sides of the plate in Pacific's new on-campus ballpark, Klein Family Field. A third Tiger, senior Luke Massetti (Modesto, Calif.) agreed to terms with the Texas Rangers late last week. As a fifth-year player, Massetti was considered a free agent, allowing him to sign with any professional organization before the draft. Massetti has already reported to instructional camp in Sunrise, Ariz. and expect to pitch this season for the Rangers' short-season A team, the Spokane Indians, in Spokane, Wash. Massetti finished the 2006 season with a 5-5 record and a 4.65 ERA in a team-high 89 innings pitched. Like Jackson, Massetti transferred to Pacific from Modesto JC, prior to the 2005 season. In two years at Pacific, Luke finished with a combined record of 13-11 and notched 123 K's in 205 innings.
