Matt Berezay selected in the 21st Round of the MLB Amateur Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers

Stockton, Calif. Pacific senior Matt Berezay (Manteca, Calif.) became the third Pacific Tiger drafted during the second day of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft on Wednesday, June 7.

Berezay was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers with the 623rd overall pick (21st Round). He joined fellow seniors Eric Stolp (Oakhurst, Calif.) and Anthony Jackson (Modesto, Calif.), who were selected by the San Francisco Giants and the Colorado Rockies respectively on Tuesday, June 6.

Berezay completed his second season with the Tigers in 2006 after coming to Pacific prior to the 2005 season from Modesto JC. Matt finished his senior season with a .322 batting average, second on the team. Berezay also finished second on the team with 11 home runs, 39 RBI, and 65 hits. Matt led the Tigers with 18 doubles, 36 walks, and 42 runs scored. Matt also led the Tigers with a .548 slugging percentage and a .448 on-base percentage.

In two years as a Tiger, Berezay finished with a combined 26 home runs, placing him third in Pacific history for most home runs in a career.

Stolp was selected with the 416th overall pick (14th Round) by the San Francisco Giants. A four-year player at Pacific, Eric finished his final season with the Tigers with by leading Pacific with four saves in 2006. Eric was 3-2 on the season and finished his career with a 7-14 record. Stolp appeared in 22 games, all out of the bullpen in 2006, closing the season with a 4.71 ERA. With a fastball that can reach into the mid 90's, Eric recorded 101 strikeouts in 141 innings at Pacific. Stolp will report to Arizona for mini-camp within the next week and expects to pitch for San Francisco's short-season A team, the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in Salem, Oregon.

Jackson was selected with the 468th overall pick (16th Round) by the Colorado Rockies. Jackson played his final two seasons of collegiate baseball at Pacific, after spending two seasons at Modesto JC. Anthony earned All-Big West Honorable Mention following the 2006 season as he posted a .289 batting average in 47 games. Jackson led the Tigers with 16 stolen bases in both 2005 and 2006. A switch hitter, Jackson is the only Tiger, to have homered from both sides of the plate in Pacific's new on-campus ballpark, Klein Family Field.
