Current Tigers Welcome Back Past Players on Alumni Day

Oct. 20, 2008

Stockton, Calif. - Taking the field for their first time since graduating, Adam Ching ('08) and Noah St. Urbain ('08) made their alumni debuts on Saturday, Oct. 18. In the second of two alumni contests, recent alumni fell to a competitive 2009 team, ready to make some waves in the Big West Conference.

Pacific won the game after seven innings, 15-2, when the alumni ran out of available pitchers. Highlights from the current roster included J.B. Brown's plate performance, as he was only a homer shy of hitting for the cycle, with a single, double and triple.

Kurt Wideman also made his presence felt offensively, recording two hits as he touched three bases with a single and a double. Earning the win for the current Tigers was pitcher Cole Akins, who did not allow a single earned run in his quality three-inning appearance.

Alongside Ching and St. Urbain, other notable recent alumni to come out and enjoy the Kinder's barbecue, sunshine and new stadium included Justin Baum ('07), Matt Berezay ('06), Anthony Jackson ('06), Jesse Kovacs ('05), Darin Moore ('99), Curtis Pasma ('07), Josh Schmidt ('05) and Steve Spurgeon ('06).

Before the current players-recent alumni game, the Pacific baseball team hosted an exciting old timers' game, featuring graduates from the 1970s, 80s and 90s. Curt Zimmerman ('95), Moore and Jason Vorhauer ('98) each displayed heroics at the plate, teeing off home runs as if they haven't missed a step since finishing their careers here at Pacific.

Dave Bevilaqua ('79) and Ronald Duhamel ('83) each took the mound for two innings in that game.

A crowd of well over 100 came out to enjoy the festivities and spread the excitement for the start of the 2009 baseball season. The 2009 season kicks off on Feb. 20, when the Tigers head to Baylor.

Be sure to come out and catch all the action next fall, when the Tigers' annual Alumni Day will happen once again.
