Pacific Baseball Adds Five for 2009-10 Campaign

Nov. 16, 2008

Stockton, Calif. - Pacific baseball head coach Ed Sprague announced the signing of Stockton native John Haberman (Stockton, Calif.), Patrick O'Rourke (Elk Grove, Calif.), Bobby Raymos (Lodi, Calif.), Dustin Torchio (Santa Cruz, Calif.) and Andrew Wild (Visalia, Calif.) to national letters of intent for the 2009-10 baseball season during the early signing period.

Haberman is a 6'2'' 190-pound left-handed pitcher from St. Mary's High School in Stockton, Calif. During his junior campaign in 2008, John was 6-2 with two saves and a 3.10 ERA in 49.2 innings of work. Haberman allowed just one home run and one triple and held opposing hitters to a paltry .228 batting average. John finished the season with 46 strikeouts and only 20 walks. His efforts on the mound led St. Mary's to a 21-12 record last season.

Currently a freshman at Consumnes River JC, O'Rourke is a 6'4'' 215-pound right-handed hurler. As a senior at Elk Grove High School in 2008, O'Rourke finished the season with a 4.29 ERA in 31 innings. He recorded 29 strikeouts and posted a 4-3 record, while surrendering just 16 walks.

A combination player that could both pitch and hit, Raymos comes to Pacific as a right-handed pitcher and outfielder. Currently in his senior season at Tokay High School, Raymos stands 6'1'' and weighs 180 pounds. Last year, Bobby finished the season with an impressive .420 batting average, scored 24 runs and drove in 26. On the mound, Raymos was 6-2 with a 1.58 ERA and a .175 opposing batting average in 53 innings. Bobby started nine games on the hill, recording 50 strikeouts and issuing just 23 walks.

Pacific added to its infield with the 5'9'' second baseman Torchio . Dustin is a three-year starter for Santa Cruz High School, anchoring second base on defense and leading the team on offense. Last year, he helped lead Santa Cruz to the Division III championship game, along the way scoring 52 runs while producing 12 doubles, 24 RBIs, 26 walks and hitting .366 as the team's leadoff hitter. Torchio was named to the All-Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League First Team and the Santa Cruz Sentinel's All-Santa Cruz County team. He was selected as the County's Offensive MVP of the year.

The final early addition to the Pacific dugout is Wild a 6'1'' 195-pound left-handed pitcher from Visalia, Calif. Currently a senior at Mt. Whitney High School, Wild finished his junior season with an 11-3 record and a 1.65 ERA. Wild tossed 89 innings in 2008, recording 139 strikeouts and allowing only 37 walks. Andrew was rewarded following the season by earning a spot on the All-Yosemite League First Team and a All-State Second Team selection.

"This group will add a great deal of athleticism and depth to our team, but they also have the talent to contribute to our team right away," said Sprague. "Specifically the addition of four high-quality pitchers, including two from the left side, will every pitcher on our team better.
