Pacific wins at Long Beach State, 68-60

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Pacific men's basketball team earned a 68-60 Big West Conference victory at Long Beach State on Thursday, Jan. 6. With the win the Tigers improved to 9-2 overall and 4-0 in Big West play. The loss dropped the 49ers to 2-10 for the season and 0-3 in conference play.

The first half saw the Tigers roll out to another large lead over a conference foe, finishing the half with a 19 point lead at 38-19. After trailing 8-7 with just under 14:00 minutes to play, the Tigers put together a 14-4 run to take control of the game. Pacific was paced by junior Christian Maraker (Varberg, Sweden) who ended the opening half with 10 points and seven rebounds. Maraker finished the game with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Despite the 19 point advantage at the half, Pacific saw their lead dwindle to eight with with just over 6:00 minutes to play as the 49ers outscored the Tigers 30-19 through the first three media timeouts. The Tigers were able to hold on to their eight point lead for the 68-60 win despite going 7-of-14 from the free throw line to end the conteste.

For the game the Tigers were led by senior David Doubley (Oakland, Calif.) who finished with a game-high 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting. Doubley also added four assists and three rebounds for Pacific. The Tigers had two other players reach double-figures as senior Jasko Korajkic (Jonkoping, Sweden) added 14 points and Maraker, 12.

The 49ers also had three players in double-digit scoring as Chris Jenkins tied for the game-high with 15 points followed by Jibril Hodges with 11 and Shawn Hawkins added 10.

Pacific is next in action with a Big West Conference contest at UC Irvine on Saturday, Jan. 8, at 7:05 p.m.
