
Pacific Steams Past Long Beach State, 87-58

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pacific men's basketball team extended its winning streak to 14 games overall and 25 games in Big West Conference regular season play with an 87-58 defeat of Long Beach State on Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Alex G. Spanos Center. With the victory, the Tigers improved to 18-2 overall and remained perfect at 12-0 in Big West action. Long Beach State dropped to 3-18 overall (1-10 Big West). The 49ers challenged the Tigers early in the game, building a 13-7 lead with 15:23 to play in the period. Pacific rallied to tie the game at 17-17 and took control from there, cruising to a 50-27 halftime advantage. The Tigers' 50 first-half points were their most this season. Pacific continued to fire on all cylinders in the second half as the Tigers' lead never dropped below 24 points the rest of the way. As a team, Pacific shot 66.0 percent (33-of-50) from the field, and 12 different Tigers recorded at least two points in the contest. Senior Guillaume Yango (Paris, France) led Pacific offensively in the game with a season-high tying 20 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the floor. Senior Jasko Korajkic (Jonkoping, Sweden) and junior Johnny Gray (Agoura Hills, Calif.) were also in double figures for the Tigers with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Gray added a game-high five assists for Pacific as the Tigers had 19 assists as a team. Onye Ibekwe and Jibril Hodges paced Long Beach State with 12 points each. Pacific is next in action with a Big West Conference contest at Idaho on Thursday, Feb. 10, at 7:05 p.m.
