LOGAN, Utah - Junior Christian Maraker (Varberg, Sweden) drained a field goal from the free throw line with two seconds remaining to lift Pacific to a 64-63 Big West Conference victory at Utah State on Saturday, Feb. 12. The Tigers trailed by eight points with 37 seconds remaining in the contest.

With the win, Pacific improved to 20-2 overall and remained perfect at 14-0 in Big West Conference action. Utah State fell to 18-6 overall (9-4 Big West).

The Tigers extended their current winning streak to 16 games, tied for the second-longest such streak in program history. The win was just Pacific's second at the Smith Spectrum in 32 attempts.

Utah State held a 61-53 advantage following a Spencer Nelson free throw with 37 seconds left. The Tigers cut the lead to 61-56 after senior Marko Mihailovic (Santa Monica, Calif.) was fouled in the act of shooting a three-pointer and made each of his free throw attempts.

Following a Pacific foul, Nate Harris made a pair of free throws for Utah State to put the Aggies up, 63-56, with 22 ticks left. Junior Mike Webb (Lancaster, Calif.) proceeded to make three-pointers on consecutive possessions to bring the Tigers within one at 63-62.

After another Pacific foul, David Pak missed a pair of free throws with 11 seconds left to give the Tigers one last possession with a chance to win. Senior Tyler Newton (Burbank, Calif.) dished a pass from the base line to Maraker at the free throw line, and Maraker's shot found the bottom of the net with two seconds left.

Senior Guillaume Yango (Paris, France) led Pacific with 15 points and 11 rebounds on the evening. Maraker added 12 points, while Webb and senior David Doubley (Oakland, Calif.) each contributed 10.

 

 

Jaycee Carroll scored a game-high 19 points for Utah State.
