Petersson Closes Out NCAA Regionals With Final Round 75
May 17, 2007 Tempe, Ariz. - Pacific senior Thomas Petersson shot a final round 76 at the NCAA West Regional Saturday, May 19th. Thomas posted a three-round score of 217 to finish in 87th place. The lone Pacific senior, playing in his first NCAA tournament appearence, shot an opening round 71 at Arizona State's Karsten Creek Golf Course. He followed that performance up with a second round 71 to stay at two-under par after two days of play. Petersson, beginning third round play at two-under par started off steady through the first three holes this morning. He made pars on 10,11 and 12 but bogeyed 13, bounced back with birdies on 14 and 15 and then double-bogeyed the par 3 16th hole. He made birdie on 17 but then bogeyed 18 to finish his first nine at one-over par. The final round front nine read much like the back nine for the Swedish senior. Pars on 1,2 and 3 but a bogey on 4 pushed him to two-over while a birdie on the following hole got him back to one-over. He then made bogey on the par 3 6th hole. A bogey on 7 left him at four over for the day as he finished at two-over par for the tournament. "While the results here this week aren't what Thomas was shooting for a think it would be remiss to say that anything about the tournament was a failure," said head coach Brandon Goethals. "He worked hard to get to this point and compete as one of the best in the nation and that's exactly what he did."
