Bordeaux To Compete in US Amateur

July 29, 2008

University Place, Washington - Pacific golfer TJ Bordeaux will compete in the 2008 US Amateur at Pinehurst after qualifying at Chambers Bay Golf Links Tuesday afternoon. Bordeaux shot rounds of 71-75 at the 7,400-yard future site of the US Open.

Playing in pouring rain and windy conditions in the cold Pacific Northwest Bordeaux opened the qualifier with a one-under 71 and came back in the afternoon with a 75.

"It was tough out there in those conditions," said Bordeaux. "A 71-75 there (Chambers Bay), at that course, is like shooting in the low sixties back home."

The qualifier rewards the top four players, spots in the US Amateur held at Pinehurst, North Carolina on August 18-24. TJ was the low-man of the day with a 146 with only three players left on the course.

"I'm not sure if I won the qualifier or not," said TJ. "I don't care. I did what mattered. I made it. I'm pumped!"

Bordeaux will prepare for the Amateur in the coming weeks, fly to North Carolina and compete and then be back in Stockton to begin his sophomore season at the University of the Pacific.

"This is just the caliber of player TJ is," said head coach Brandon Goethals. "He goes out gives what it takes to get the job done. I'm proud of him."

Bordeaux's first year at Pacific was highlighted by winning the 2008 Oregon Duck Classic and being named to the All-Big West First Team. He also had the second lowest scoring average in the history of the Pacific Golf program and began his summer by playing in the British Amateur.
