Hohn Wins San Joaquin Amateur in Playoff

Sept. 9, 2007

Swenson Park - Stockton, California - San Joaquin Amateur title a harbinger of things to come? It was just a year ago when senior Thomas Petersson shot a final round score of 70 to win the annual Swenson Park tournament. His senior season soared following his victory to start the season and ended at the NCAA Regionals. This season it was senior A.J. Hohn; doing it one better and in more dramatic fashion. Hohn came from behind to shot a final round 69 and overtake Ryan Carter in sudden-death playoff to become the 2007 San Joaquin Amateur Champion.

Hohn followed up his opening round one-under 71 with a three-under par on Sunday afternoon. Needing a birdie to extend the match Hohn blasted out of the sand on the par 5, 18th and then promptly draining an eight-footer to send the tournament to sudden-death. Playing number one first Hohn cut the corner with his drive, hit his approach to the middle of the green and matched Carter's birdie. The second playoff hole would prove to be all he needed as Hohn's long iron found the center of the green and his follow-up putt found the center of the cup.

A.J.'s victory set the tone for the first two days of qualifying for the Pacific golf team, who coincidently, used the Amateur as two of their rounds to determine the line-up for Rhode Island. Senior Chris Rosenau took third with a 68-74.
