2006-07 (Junior): Wojciech capped an impressive junior season with his first appearance in the NCAA Championships. Betlej qualified and competed in the 100 and 200 Backstroke, at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Mar. 17, finishing 31st and 29th respectively. Wojciech's best times of the season came at the Big West Championships on Feb. 23 and 24. During the conference meet, Betlej set a school record of 48.59 seconds in the 100 Backstroke. He equaled the feet on the second day of competition, setting another school record in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 1:44.96. 2005-06 (Sophomore): As a sophomore Betlej placed first in the 100 Back (48.76), first in the 200 Back (1:45.95), and fourth in the 200 IM (1:51.41) at the Big West Championships. He was also a member of the 800 Free relay team (6:44.23) that took third in the meet. In May 2007, he competed in the Polish National Championships where he placed first in the 200 Back and second in the 100 Back. His performances qualified him for the European Championships where he placed 17th in the 200 Back. 2004-05 (Freshman): In Betlej's first season with Pacific, he proved to be a multi-talented performer, scoring for the Tigers in the 100 and 200 Back, 100 Fly, 50 and 200 Free, and 200 IM. Betlej excelled at the Big West Championships, winning the 200 Back (1:46.14), as well as finishing second in the 200 IM (1:50.02) and third in the 100 Back (49.21). High School: Wojciech graduated from Liceum Mistrzostwa Sportowego in Krakow, Poland. Personal: Wojciech Betlej hails from Mielec, Poland and he is the son of Danuta and Ryszard. He has one sister named Iwona. In his fourth year at Pacific, Wojciech is a graphic design major. |
