2007-08 (Junior): Lundy continued to be a staple in freestyle events during his third year with the Tigers. Matt shattered a school record in the 1000 Free when he swam it with a time of 9:19.69 last season; the previous school record was 9:22.15, set by Edmund Heilihy in 2004. Matt set two more personal season highs in the 500 Free (4:34.22) and the 1650 Free (15:43.15) during the Big West Championships at the end of February. Lundy was one of eight Pacific swimmers to earn All-Academic Big West honors for the winter season, with a 3.2 or better cumulative grade point average. 2006-07 (Sophomore): Matt set team bests in both the 1000 Free and 1650 Free at the Big West Championships, with times of 9:26.42 and 15:36.37. Lundy's best time in the 1650 Free was also the second-best mark in the Big West Conference. Lundy also swam several other freestyle events for the Tigers, adding much-needed depth and support to the roster. 2005-06 (Freshman): As a freshman Lundy placed third in the 1000 Free (9:24.47) and fourth in the 1650 Free (15:47.10) at the Big West Championships. He recorded his best times in the 200 Free (1:43.57) and the 500 Free (4:35.33) at the Texas Invitational. Matt's times in the 1000 Free and the 1650 Free were the fastest times recorded for the team on the season. At the end of the year he received the team's most outstanding male newcomer award for his contributions in dual meets and at the conference championships. High School: Matt attended Centaurus High School in Lafayette, Colo., where he lettered in swimming all four years. Over that span he was a six-time All American, specializing in relay events and finished out his high school career as an Academic All-American as well. Personal: Matthew Lundy was born in Montpelier, Vt., and is the son of David and Jo Lundy. Matt has two siblings, Erin and Tyler. During his free time, Matt enjoys hiking, rock climbing and skiing. Matt is a physics major in his fourth year at Pacific and wants to become an engineer in the automotive industry after graduation. |
