At Pacific

Vince scored season best times in seven events in 2003-04, with all seven being set at the Big West Championships. He was part of the 200 Medley Relay team that set a school record at the Big West Championships with a time of 1:30.89. Vince was also part of every relay team (200 Free, 400 Free, and 800 Medley), except the 400 medley, that had top times on the team. Martinez registered season best times in the 100 Fly (49.56), 50 Free (20.42), and 100 Free (45.06). In his second season, 2002-03, Martinez had top times in the 100 Fly (49.29), 50 Free (20.07), and 100 Free (44.88) and was a key scorer in helping the Tigers repeat as Big West champions. In 2001-02, his first season at Pacific, Martinez entered the Pacific record book in two events at the Big West Championships. Vince's time of 44.84 in the 100 Free ranked fifth, and his time of 20.60 in the 50 Free ranked him second. Vince also contributed in the 100 Fly and is an essential member of Pacific's relay teams.

High School

Vince attended Castro Valley High School in Castro Valley, Calif., graduating in 2001 with four letters in swimming. Martinez was a four-time All-American in the 50 and 100 Free while a member of the Trojans. Vince was named all-league on 10 occasions during his career. He also placed in the top five in the nation in the 100 Free during his four years at Castro Valley High School.

Personal

Vincent Martinez was born on Aug. 22, 1982, in Alameda, Calif., and is the son of Robert and Pat Martinez. Vince is a sociology major in his fourth year at Pacific.
