In his first year as an assistant coach for the Tigers, Joe will primarily be working with the Breaststrokers and the Sprinters.

Joe comes to Pacific from the University of Michigan where he served as a volunteer assistant coach from 2003-2006. In his three seasons with the Wolverines Plane worked with the sprinters focusing on stroke technique and race management. During his time at Michigan Joe helped coach three All-Americans and three school record breakers including the 200 free relay which broke the Big Ten record in 2005. From 2004-2006 he also served as the head coach for the Sylvania Tsunami Swim Club in Sylvania, Ohio.

Plane began his coaching career in 1997 as the Head Coach of the Marshall Community Swim Club in Marshall, MI, where he once competed as a swimmer. In 1999 he was a founding coach of the Battle Creek Aquatic Club in Battle Creek, Michigan before moving on to a head coaching position with Wolverine Aquatics in Ann Arbor, Michigan from 2000-2004.

Plane swam at John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas where he competed in distance freestyle and breaststroke. He graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics.
