Tigers Men's Swim Team Signs Six Recruits For The 2005-06 Season

STOCKTON, Calif.- University of the Pacific men's swim program announced today the signing of six recruits for the 2005-06 season. The Tigers signed Stephen Quinn (Livermore, Calif.), David Platow (Westport, Conn.), Thomas Peart (Livermore, Calif.), Eric Pace (Redding, Calif.), Chris Chapman (Redmond, Wash.), Seth Urban (Centennial, Colo.) to national letters of intent.

Quinn is currently a senior at Livermore High School, where he is a three-year letterwinner in swimming. Quinn has been named to the All-East Bay Athletic League his first three years, while earning MVP honors and All-American status this past swim season. He holds school records in the 200 Free (1:43.69), 500 Free (4:40.74), 1650 Free (16:29.48). He plans to major in business next fall.

Platow is a Breast and Fly specialist at Fairfield Prep. in Fairfield, Conn, where he is a three-year letterwinner in swimming. This past season, Platow earned YMCA All-American honors, was named to the 2004 Connecticut State Team, was a sectional qualifier, and an All-SCC selection. In the classroom, Platow is a member of the National Honor Society and a Connecticut Scholar-Athlete.

Peart is currently a senior at Granada High School in Livermore, Calif., where he has earned seven letters in water polo and swimming. During his junior year, Peart was named to the all-league team in the 100 Free, 200 IM, 200 Free Relay, and 400 Free Relay. In water polo, Peart earned All-EBAL honorable mention recognition both his sophomore and junior years.

Pace, the 2003 Most Outstanding Male Swimmer in the NSCIF, is a senior at Shasta High School in Redding, Calif., where he is a three-year letterwinner in swimming. He is an all-around swimmer who has swam in the Back, IM, Free, and Fly events. Pace currently holds 12 Redding HS records and holds the fourth fastest time in NSCIF history in the 200 Free and seventh fastest in the 100 Fly. In 2003, he earned the Highpoint Award at the Junior Olympic Championships, and then in 2004, earned the Highpoint Award at the Junior Olympic Short Course Championships. Eric plans to major in communication and business at Pacific next fall.
 

 

Chapman is from Redmond, Wash., where he is a senior at Inglemoor High School. He has earned three letters in swimming and helped lead the Vikings to three straight state championship meets, where Inglemoor has finished third and second twice in Chapman's three years. This past year, Chapman swam to a fifth place finish in the 100 Fly and sixth place finish in 200 IM at the state meet. In the classroom, Chapman is a USS Scholastic All-American. He plans on majoring in mechanical engineering at Pacific next fall.

Finally, Urban is a currently a senior at Regis Jesuit High School, where he is a three-year letterwinner in swimming. He will specialize in the sprint Free events for the Tigers.

"The six men that we signed this fall are a very versatile group," said interim head coach Daryn Glasgow. "They will help set the tone for the future of the program and bring to our team a championship attitude and work ethic that will make them immediate contributors to our team."
