May 18, 2006 Ostrowiec, Poland - Pacific sophomore Wojciech Betlej (Mielec, Poland) and Krzysztof Zoldak (Oswiecim, Poland) will be competing in the Polish National Swimming Championships from May 18-21. In the first day of competition, Betlej won the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:02.15. Betlej also qualified to compete at the European Championships in the 200 backstroke as he was one of the top two finishers in the event and posted a time below the minimum qualifying time of 2:02.18. "Wojciech has been ready for a swim like this. After swimming very fast in December he narrowly missed qualifying for the NCAA meet in March," said Pacific head swimming coach Greg Meehan. "He was able to bounce right back and worked hard in preparation for this week at his Polish Championships. He delivered his fast performance today and I couldn't be more proud of him." Betlej and Zoldak will both be in action on Friday, May 19 as Betlej will compete in the 100 backstroke, while Zoldak is in the 400 IM. Zoldak will wrap up Pacific's participation in the Polish National Swimming Championships on Saturday, May 20 as he is scheduled to compete in the 200 IM.
