Tigers Stumble Against Arizona on the Road, 6-1

Tucson, Ariz. - After opening their season with a win over Northern Arizona on Friday evening, the Pacific men's tennis team fell to Arizona on the road by the score of 6-1 in their second contest of the year on Feb. 2. With the loss, the Tigers fell to 1-1 on the spring, while the Wildcats advanced to a perfect 5-0 to start their season with the win. Freshman David Gonzalez (Guayaquil, Ecuador) was the lone Tiger to taste victory on the day as he defeated Arizona's Claudio Carrasco 4-6, 6-4, 10-5 at the No. 4 position. In addition to improving to 2-0 on the spring with the win, Gonzalez also handed the Wildcats their first singles loss so far this year. Arizona has now played five games into their spring season. "We played a very tough team today and played well, but we would have been more competitive had we played a bit more," said Pacific head coach Guido Baumann. The Tigers had two matches rescheduled last weekend due to poor weather conditions in Southern California. Rain has also limited the Tigers time on the practice courts in Stockton, Calif. The Pacific men's tennis team will next be in action on Feb. 9, when they return home to take on UC Davis at 11:00 a.m. at the Hal Nelson Tennis Courts in Stockton, Calif. They will also take on Sonoma State that afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
