
Pacific Men's Tennis Takes Two Matches, 4-3 Over UC Davis and 6-1 Against Sonoma State

Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific men's team opened their 2008 home season with two victories in one day as the Tigers defeated UC Davis, 4-3, then bested Sonoma State, 6-1, on Saturday, Feb. 9. With two victories on Saturday, the Tigers moved to 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in Big West Conference matches. UC Davis, meanwhile, fell to 4-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play. Finally, Sonoma State dropped to 0-2. In the Tigers match against UC Davis, David Gonzalez (Guayaquil, Ecuador) and Artem Gramma (Krivoj Rog, Ukraine) teamed up to win at the No. 1 doubles position over Justin Garcia and Henri Landes of UC Davis 8-6, while Vegerd Veskimagi (Saka Estonia) and Pedro Toledo (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) secured a victory at the No. 3 spot against Hunter Lee and Tyler Lee to earn the doubles point. In singles play against the Aggies, Gramma defeated Landes at the No. 1 position 6-1, 6-1, Gonzalez defeated Mike Reiser at the No. 2 position 7-5, 7-5, and Renan Delsin (Santa Cruz da Conceiacao, Brazil) defeated Garcia at the No. 3 position 6-2, 7-6 (4). In the Tigers match against Sonoma State, Gonzalez and Veskimagi defeated Andy Muesse and Quan Vu 8-2 in the No. 1 doubles match and Gramma and Delsin won at the No. 2 position against Jeremy Heckley and Logan Bailey 8-2 to capture the doubles point for Pacific In singles play against the Seawolves, the Tigers won five of six matches on the afternoon as they only lost at the No. 6 position. Capturing wins for the Tigers were Gramma at the No. 1 position, Gonzalez at the No. 2 position, Delsin at the No. 3 position, Veskimagi at the No. 4 position, and Toledo at the No. 5 position.
