
Artem Gramma Leads Tigers With Two Victories on Day One at the Chandler Cup

Berkeley, Calif. - Freshman Artem Gramma (Krivoj Roj, Ukraine) blazed through two opponents to advance to the quarterfinals of the Chandler Cup B Flight on Friday, Oct. 26. Gramma dropped just four games on the day as he defeated UC San Diego's Blake Meister in the opening round of play, 6-0, 6-2. Just hours later, Gramma dropped Brad Bator of Washington, 6-1, 6-1. Artem will resume action on 10:30 a.m. in the quarterfinal round against Connor Olson of Sonoma State. Sophomore Vegerd Veskimagi (Saku, Estonia) also advanced out of the first round of Flight B with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Johan Berhof of Loyola Marymount, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4. Veskimagi, however, fell in the round of 32 to Andrea Zannoni of Saint Mary's, 6-3, 6-4. Gramma and fellow fresham David Gonzalez (Guayaquil, Ecuador) bested the third seeded team of Jonathan Dahan and Pierre Mouillon of tournament host California, 8-1. Action resumes at the Chandler Cup on Saturday, Oct. 27. Results:
