
Tigers Kick Off 2007 Pacific Invitational

Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific men's tennis team kicked off the 2007 Pacific Invitational with two wins in doubles play and two wins in singles action on Nov. 2 in Stockton, Calif. In singles action, David Gonzalez (Guayaquil, Ecuador) and Vegerd Veskimagi (Saku, Estonia) won their matches in the round of 16 in the B flight. Gonzalez defeated Dan Elefant of UC Davis 6-1; 6-7(5); 7-6(7), while Veskimagi took down Einar Hart of USF 6-3; 6-4 in the first round of the tournament. Brian Van Wagner (Pasadena, Calif.) fell to St. Mary's Jerry Ellison in flight C 6-2; 6-0. In Doubles play, Artem Gramma (Krivoj Roj, Ukraine) and Veskimagi got off to a slow start falling to McNulty and Muesse of Sonoma State in the first round of flight A doubles action 8-6. However, they bounced back with a 9-8(1) win over Garcia and Garcia from UC Davis in round two to finish the day. In flight D action, Gonzalez and Van Wagner defeated St Mary's Emerson and Welty 8-0. The Pacific Invitational will continue on Nov. 3 at 10:00 a.m. It is being played on University of the Pacific's campus at the Hal Nelson Tennis Courts.
