Stockton, Calif.- The Pacific men's and women's tennis programs started off the 2008-09 season with a wonderful fundraising and community event on Friday Sept. 19 - Saturday Sept. 20. The event featured a dinner, live auction, as well as a community tennis tournament held at Hal Nelson Tennis Courts.

The annual pro-am format tennis tournament was held on Saturday, featuring several of Pacific's star players from the men's and women's programs. Other participants included Pacific alumni, local athletes, and other community members.

The participants were divided up into eight teams, from which Team Federer and Team Sharapova were the finalists. Each team had several pairings and at the end of the day, Team Sharapova defeated Team Federer 15 to 9.

The results of the Finals of the tournament were as follows:

First Doubles Position - Vegerd Veskimagi (Saku, Estonia) / Christian Peinter (Sharapova) tied Moritz Starke (Bamberg, Germany) / Billy Shawver (Federer) 4-4

Second Doubles Position - Svenja Arens (Bensberg, Germany) / Lisa Hanson (Sharapova) tied Sasha Fisher (Southampton, Bermuda) / Greg Unger (Federer) 4-4

Third Doubles Position - March Hochhalter / Reggie Mannon (Sharapova) defeated Steve Montalvo / Nancy Quacinella (Federer) 7-1

The festivities began on Friday night with an elegant dinner and live auction for all in attendance. The auction featured some exciting items such as a trip to Pajaro Dunes Beach, a gourmet dinner prepared by a professional chef, and much more!
