2004: In his third season of action for the Tigers, Mauricio saw action in almost every game for Pacific playing in 99 out of the Tigers 101 games, second most on the team. Brizuela used the most of his time on the court finishing the season with the third highest totals in kills and digs with 269 and 146, respectively. Additionally, Mauricio finished fourth on the team with 40 blocks on the season. On April 17, in the Tigers' 3-2 win over No. 10 Stanford, Mauricio posted a career-high 4 service aces, a tie for fourth most in a single-game in Tiger history. Off the court, Mauricio was named to the Academic All-MPSF team for the second time in his career. 2003: Brizuela saw significant action as a sophomore, appearing in 90 games for the Tigers. During the season he recorded 36 kills with a .146 hitting percentage. Mauricio also tallied four aces, 30 digs and six blocks. Following the season Mauricio was named an MPSF Scholar Athlete. 2002: Mauricio appeared in 36 games for the Tigers as a freshman, recording four kills and notching a 1.000 hitting percentage. HIGH SCHOOL: Mauricio graduated from Colegio Internacional in 2000, where he participated in basketball, volleyball and water polo. Brizuela was named Athlete of the Year at Colegio in 2000 and was a member of three national teams: the Under-16-year-old Paraguayan National Team, the Junior Paraguayan National Team (under 21), and the Major League Paraguayan National Team, which finished second in the South Zone South American Tournament. In 1998 and 1999, Mauricio was a member of the junior national team that captured the Junior Paraguayan National Tournament Championship. PERSONAL: Born on July 24, 1982, Mauricio is the son of Emilio Brizuela and Ruth Cartes de Brizuela. In his fourth year at Pacific, he is majoring in business. |
