2006 (Junior)
Matt played in 53 games for the Tigers in 2006, seeing time in 23 matches making five starts. Cornell totalled 101 kills on 221 attacks, and averaged 1.08 digs per game. Matt posted a career high 13 kills against UC Santa Barbara on January 27th.
University of La Verne
Before transferring to Pacific in the spring of 2005, Cornell helped lead the University of La Verne Leopards to Division III national rankings of No. 3 in 2003 and No. 5 in 2004. In both of his seasons at La Verne, Cornell earned top honors as he was named the Offensive Player of the Year in both 2003 and 2004. In 2003, Matt was named to the NCAA Division III Championship All-Tournament team as he led the Leopards to the Final Four. Again, in both of his years at the university, Cornell was named a scholar-athlete.
High School
Matt graduated from Chatsworth High School in Chatsworth, Calif. in 2002. During his four years with the Chancellors, Matt was a three-time letterwinner in both soccer and volleyball. During his senior season, Cornell led his volleyball team to a perfect 14-0 record and the Chatsworth City Championship. For his player, Matt was named the CIF City Section Offensive Player of the Year in 2002. In addition, Cornel was a two-time All-West Valley League First Team member. Off the court, Matt was named a scholar-athlete in each of his four years.
Personal
Matt Cornell is the son of Ed and Susan Cornell. Matt has one younger sister, Lauren (18). In his second year at Pacific, he is majoring in communication.
