Al Johnson joined the Pacific volleyball staff in August of 2006 as a volunteer assistant coach with the women's team, and is now in his third season with the men's team. Al is not new to the scene at Pacific however, having been a camp co-director for the past 10 years.

Al comes to Pacific from the University of Texas-El Paso where he was an assistant volleyball coach and lecturer in the Kinesiology Department. Johnson also served as a volunteer strength and conditioning coach at UTEP, handling the track and field program. While in El Paso, Al served as the Preparedness and Response Manager of Disaster Services for the El Paso area chapter of the American Red Cross. Under his supervision and leadership, American Red Cross volunteers responded to some of the most devastating catastrophes the South and Southwest have seen, including Hurricanes Rita and Katrina.

Prior to his time in El Paso, the former Air Force Captain Johnson had stints as the assistant coach at Cal State San Bernardino, New Mexico State, and Northern Arizona. During his time in the Air Force, he also served as a coach for both Air Force and Inter-service women's volleyball teams.

Al, a native of Hawai'i, currently makes his home in Stockton.
