Men's Volleyball Defeats UC San Diego, 3-1
Jan. 20, 2006
Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific men's volleyball team earned their first conference victory of the season and stretched their winning streak over UC San Diego to 26-straight games with a 3-1 win over the Tritons on January 20. The Tigers won in four games, 30-19, 30-25, 28-30 and 30-25. With the win on Friday night the Tigers' record moved to 1-2 in the conference and 2-4 overall.
The Tigers jumped to a huge lead in the first game, running up a 13-4 lead early on as they cruised to a 30-19 victory. In game two the Tigers again got out to a quick lead and held off the Tritons, winning 30-25. While Pacific looked to close out the night in three straight games the Tritons had other ideas, battling the Tigers hard throughout the third set and barely holding on after Pacific came back from six down to tie the game at 28. From there UC San Diego collected two points to finish off the game at 30-28. The Tigers finally put things away in the fourth set, taking the win 30-25.
Junior Andreas Baboulidis led the Tigers with 14 kills on the night and sophomore Pekka Seppanen recorded 13. Senior Brian Adamson racked up double-digit kills with 10 and junior Mitch Hazelett recorded 42 assists.
The Tigers play again Saturday, January 21 against the number one team in the nation, Long Beach State, at 7 pm in the Spanos Center.
