No. 14 Pacific Falls To No. 2 BYU In Three

STOCKTON, Calif. - The No. 14 Pacific men's volleyball team fell to 14-16 overall and 8-13 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation with a 30-24, 30-26, 30-24 loss to No. 2 BYU (21-5, 17-4 MPSF) on Friday, Apr. 13, at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

The Tigers were led by junior Pekka Seppanen (Kuopio, Finland), who posted a team high nine kills and five blocks. Junior Simon Chen-Byerley (Northfield, Ill.) added eight kills, while junior Blake Gentry (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) added six kills and three blocks. Senior setter Mitchel Hazelett (Roanoke, Ind.) had a season high four kills and 22 assists.

The Tigers game one with a 3-1 lead but the Cougars responded quickly and took the lead at 7-4. Pacific was unable to regain the lead and the Cougars won the game by the score of 30-24.

In game two the Tigers came out strong, taking the lead at 11-7 after kills from Chen-Byerley and Gentry. The game stayed tight but several attack errors gave the Cougars the advantage to reclaim the lead at 21-17. The Tigers put up a fight but were unable to respond and the Cougars won 30-26.

The Tigers rallied for game three, trading points with the Cougars until 10-10. The Cougars took back a lead midway through the game, despite efforts from Gentry, who added four kills and two blocks. The Cougars outhit the Tigers .421 to .143 and won 30-24.

The Cougars were lead by Ivan Perez with a game high 10 kills. while Russell Holmes added eight block assists and a solo. Rounding out the Cougars was Yosleyder Cala with eight kills and five blocks and Robby Stowell with seven kills.

The Tigers are next in action Saturday, April 15 against No. 2 BYU at the Alex G. Spanos Center, 7p.m. PST.
