Tigers Dominate Post in 63-52 Win Over Idaho

Stockton, Calif. - Behind 25 points from junior Karen Dawkins (Colordao Springs, Colo.) the Pacific women's basketball team defeated Idaho, 63-52, on Sunday, Dec. 30.

The win lifted the Tigers to 5-8 on the season, while Idaho fell to 1-11 overall.

Pacific simply dominated the inside game on Sunday afternoon as Dawkins notched a season-high 25 points and the Tigers as a team scored 34 points in the paint.

Dawkins got started in the opening seconds of the contest as she nailed a short jumper just 11 seconds into the game to give Pacific a 2-0 lead. She notched four more points in the opening three minutes lifting Pacific to an early 9-2 lead. Karen continued to score at will throughout the half as she finished the first half with 19 points, including a perfect 6-for-6 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free throw line.

Despite Dawkins impressive showing, the Vandals remained close in the opening half by shooting 8-for-14 from behind the arc and Pacific went into the locker room at the break with just a 32-31 lead.

In the second half the Tigers tightened their defense on the outside, enabling Pacific to start the half on a 13-3 run to build a 45-34 lead. Junior Whitney Price (Las Vegas, Nev.) led five Tiger scorers during the run with four points.

The Tigers never relinquished their double-digit lead, pushing their advantage to as much as 18 points with 3:54 remaining in the game.

Dawkins' 25 points led all scorers, while junior Janae Young (Sacramento, Calif.) finished with 14 points. Price led the Tigers on the boards with 14 rebounds.

Lindsey Koppen led Idaho with 11 points, while Sara Dennehy chipped in 10 points.

Pacific returns to the court on Wednesday, Jan. 2 as the Tigers begin Big West Conference play on the road against UC Riverside at 7 p.m. in Riverside, Calif.
