Tigers Battle Stanford Tough in Preseason Scrimmage.
Aug. 20, 2008
Stanford, Calif. - The Pacific field hockey team got its first taste of competition against another team on Tuesday, Aug. 19 as the Tigers scrimmaged Stanford. Playing three 20-minute periods, the two teams battled to a 4-1 end, with the Cardinal taking the victory. Stanford got out to an early 1-0 lead, but the Tigers answered in the second period when sophomore Sarah Miceli (Los Gatos, Calif.) knotted the contest with a diving goal from the middle of the circle. Stanford, however, found the back of the net three times in the third period to take the game. Pacific plays its final pre-season exhibition contest on Monday, Aug. 25 against Victoria at 12:30 p.m. in Stanford. The Tigers also announced an exhibition game against UC Davis for Nov. 1 at 3 p.m. Currently a club team, UC Davis has announced plans to elevate field hockey to a Division I program in 2009 and will join Pacific in the NorPac Conference at that time.
