For the past three seasons, Janine has been part of the German football's Extended Talent Promotion Program of the German Football Association (DFB). Additionally, Maier was a member of the Lower Bavaria Selection Team and the U-21 Bavarian Selection Team that won the 2004 German Federal State Trophy. Most recently, Janine has been a member of the FFC Wacker Munich club and a member of the SC Regensburg club, each of which play in the 2 Frauen Bundesliga in Germany. With SC Regensburg, Maier and her club finished third at the National German Youth Championships in 2003.

Born in Landshut, Germany, she is the daughter of Angela and Paul Maier. She plans to graduate with a degree in international relations and global studies.
