2003: For the third consecutive season, Roni showed her skill and ability to adapt for the betterment of the team as she moved from a starting role into a sub role for her junior season. Roni played in 17 of the Tigers' 18 games during the season while starting nine games. During her time, Roni notched two shots on goal. Off the field, Roni was recognized for her excellence in the classroom as she was named to the Academic All-Big West Conference Team honors for the second straight season. 2002: In her second season, Matsumoto became an every game starter for Pacific, starting 19 games out of 20. From her defensive position, she was able to tally 11 shots while creating havoc for opposing offenses. After the season, Roni was honored as she was named to the Jewish All-American team while garnering Academic All-Big West Conference honors. 2001: During her freshman campaign, Roni played in 11 games for the Tigers, starting one. While she ended the season with no points, she made her mark on the team with staunch defense. High School: Roni attended Mayfair High School in Lakewood, Calif., where she lettered in soccer for four years. Her stellar play helped lead the Monsoons to three consecutive league championships and the 2000 CIF Championship that earned her the recognition of being named Best Defender, MVP and to the all-league team. Along with playing soccer, Matsumoto was also Mayfair Class President for three years and was named Student-Athlete of the Year. Club Team: She is the third member from the Fram Soccer Club to attend Pacific. Personal: Born in Torrance, Calif. on December 21, 1982, she is the daughter of Melanie and Larry Sergejeff, and Kirk Matsumoto. Roni plans to graduate with a degree in sport medicine and biology. |
