2006 (Junior): Continuing one of the most successful careers in Pacific softball history, Carbonatto capped off a 2006 season with her second All-American selection, earning second team honors. In addition, Gina was named the 2006 Big West Conference Co-Field Player of the Year and was a First Team All-West Region selection. For the season Carbonatto led the Big West in hits for the third consecutive year, knocking out 64 hits throughout the season. She collected her 200th career hit in the Tigers' final series of the season, finishing the season with 202 career hits and placing her into a tie for fifth in program history. In addition to hits, Gina led the conference in stolen bases, swiping 18 bases out of 22 attempts on the season. Her .403 season batting average was good enough for third in the conference and was only slightly better than her .382 average against NCAA tournament teams. She also finished the season third in runs scored with 36, giving her 120 career runs scored, placing her eighth all-time in conference history. As good as she was at the plate, Carbonatto solidified a defense that ranked sixth in the nation in fielding percentage by playing a nearly flawless center field. In 50 starts in center field, Carbonatto committed just one defensive error while posting six outfield assists. Academically, Gina garnered her first ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII First Team selection of her career. Adding to her awards, Gina was named the Stockton Hall of Fame's Female Athlete of the Year on November 15, 2007. 2005 (Sophomore): With stellar play in her second season at Pacific, Carbonatto proved to not only be one of the top offensive players in the country, but also one of the best defensive center fielders in the nation. Defensively, Gina was perfect in the field, committing no errors while making 70 putouts and an impressive nine outfield assists. Offensively, Carbonatto slowed from her torrid 2004 pace, knocking out just 67 hits, the third highest single season total in program history. In addition, her .358 batting average ranks ninth all-time in program history. On the base paths, Carbonatto led the Big West with 23 stolen bases in 24 attempts. Gina topped her 2004 performance with career-highs in doubles with nine and runs scored with an impressive 45. For her play, Carbonatto earned First Team All-Big West honors for the second time in her career and was named to the NFCA Second Team All-West Region. Academically, Carbonatto excelled as she was named to the All-Big West Academic Team. 2004 (Freshman): Carbonatto started her career for the Tigers in record-setting fashion, establishing new single-season program marks with 71 base hits and a .449 batting average. Following the season, she was named the Big West Conference Freshman Field Player of the Year and became the first Pacific freshman to earn NFCA All-America First Team honors. Gina started each of Pacific's first 47 games, before suffering a season-ending right knee injury at Long Beach State on May 1. On the play when she sustained the injury, she recorded her record-breaking 71st base hit of the season, a double. In addition to her base hit total and batting average, Gina led the team with three triples and a .485 on-base percentage and tied for team-high honors with 12 stolen bases. Her .449 batting average led the Big West Conference, tied for fourth in the nation, and led all freshmen in the country. Carbonatto recorded a .524 (22-for-42) batting average in Big West Conference contests. A two-time Big West Conference Player of the Week (Mar. 5 and Mar. 17), she had separate 12-game and 17-game hitting streaks during the season. Gina was 6-for-8 with four runs scored in the Tigers' doubleheader sweep of Saint Mary's on Feb. 29. She appeared as a leadoff batter six times in that doubleheader and recorded five hits to lead off Tiger innings. Carbonatto went 3-for-4 in her first career intercollegiate game as the Tigers earned a 10-2 victory over North Texas to open tournament competition at the Baylor Getterman Classic on Feb. 6, where she went on to earn all-tournament honors. High School: Carbonatto was a 2003 graduate of Lake Stevens High School in Lake Stevens, Wash., where she was a three-sport letterwinner in softball, basketball, and volleyball. A four-year letterwinner in softball as a second baseman and shortstop, she led her team to a combined 82-24 (.774) overall record and 57-7 (.891) Wesco League mark over her four years. She also led her squad to four top-seven state finishes during her career, including a third place finish as a junior in 2002. Gina earned All-Wesco League and all-area honors each of her four years and posted a .421 career batting average and .528 career on base percentage. She twice earned All-Wesco League and all-area recognition in basketball as a point guard. At the club level, she participated for the Lake Breeze club program. An exemplary student-athlete, Carbonatto was a National Honor Society inductee. Personal: Gina Carbonatto was born in Seattle, Wash. She is the daughter of Rick and Debbie Carbonatto and has an older brother, Blake. Gina is a sports medicine major in her fourth year at Pacific.
