Tigers Defeat Kansas 2-0 To Close Out Palm Springs Classic
Feb. 26, 2006
Palm Spring, Calif. - The Pacific softball team defeated Kansas 2-0 in the final round of the Palm Springs Classic, Sunday, February 26. The Tigers finished fourth with a 4-1 record in the tournament and now stand at 7-7 on the season.
An afternoon of dueling pitchers between Pacific sophomore Alyce Jorgensen (Los Altos, Calif.) and Kansas' Kassie Humphreys ended when junior Gina Carbonatto (Lake Stevens, Wash.) and senior Kristen Allen (Citrus Heights, Calif.) scored on a two-out double by junior Lizzie Hagen (Anaheim, Calif.) in the sixth inning.
In the final inning, with two Jayhawks aboard, head coach Brian Kolze went to Allen for relief. Allen responded by forcing the next two Kansas hitters into groundball outs to end the game. The save was Allen's first of the season and Jorgensen was credited with the win.
The Tigers are back in action Wednesday, March 1, for a double-header with San Jose State at Bill Simoni Field, slated to begin at 1:00 pm.
