Pacific Softball Drops Game 2 to Long Island 6-1

Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific softball team dropped a 6-1 contest to the Long Island Blackbirds March 16 at Bill Simoni Field in the final game of the Pacific Mini Tournament. The loss gives the Tigers a 12-11 record on the season.
Long Island broke a scoreless game open in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring three times. The first off a two-run home run by Holly Erwin and the final run coming when Alissa Villanueva doubled to score Brittany Murphy.
The Blackbirds added to the score in the fifth and sixth; getting two runs in the fifth when Murphy doubled to score Randi Gillespie and Krystal Mejia doubled to score Murphy. They added their final run in the bottom of the sixth when Gillespie flied out to right field but scored Celina Castillo on the throw.
Pacific finally got on the board in the top of the seventh as Gina Carbonatto (Lake Stevens, Calif.) hit an RBI single. The hit scored Lauren Weyman (Carlsbad, Calif.) but Brittany Hyams (Huntington Beach, Calif.) was thrown out from centerfield at home trying to score.
Chelsea Engle (Folsom, Calif.) was dealt the loss after pitching 3.1 innings, giving up four hits and three runs.
The Tigers are back in action on Saturday, March 18 at Bill Simoni Field for a doubleheader against St. Mary's.
