2006-07 (Junior): One of the most decorated swimmers in Pacific history, Ja-Neil continued to add to her trophy collection during her junior season as she qualified for her third consecutive NCAA Championship, earned three Big West Swimmer of the Week Awards and claimed National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week honors (for the week of Dec. 4 - Dec. 10). During her junior campaign, Ja-Neil posted a top-six time in the Big West in seven different events, including a conference best 10:06.55 in the 1,000 Free. Bragg also posted the Tigers' top time in four events (200 Free, 1,000 Free, 200 IM and 400 IM) and the second fastest time in three other events. Bragg nabbed the top prize in both the 200 and 400 IM with times of (2:02.85) and (4:18.41) at the Pacific TYR Invitational and recorded the second fasted time in the 100 and 200 Free to gather the Big West Athlete of the Week Award. Ja-Neil later collected the National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week title after winning three individual events in a dual meet against San Jose State University. At that meet Bragg won the 1000 Free (10:22.85), the 200 Back (2:06:26), and the 200 IM (2:06.86). She also swam a leg of the Tigers' relay team that took first in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of (1:47.67). On Nov. 18 at the Texas A&M Invitational Ja-Neil finished second in the 400 IM with a time of (4:15.21) and set a new school record in the process. At the NCAA championships on Mar. 9 in Minneapolis, Minn. Ja-Neil had her highest NCAA championship finish in the three years, with a 21st place finish in the 400 IM (4:17.67). At the same meet Ja-Neil also finished in 33rd place in the 200 IM with a time of (2:01.33). She holds the second fastest time in school history in that event with a time of (2:00.98). Bragg also finished 40th in the preliminary round of the 200 IM with a time of (2:20.31). Bragg has already qualified for the 2008 Olympic Trials in the 200 IM and the 400 IM. 2005-06 (Sophomore): As a sophomore, Bragg earned her second consecutive Co-Big West Female Athlete of the Year Award by finishing first in the 100 Free, 200 IM, and the 400 IM at the Big West Championships. Her times in the 200 Free (1:49.69), 200 Back (2:04.69), 200 IM (2:00.98), and the 400 IM (4:15.33) were the fastest times for the team in 2005-06. Ja-Neil currently holds the school record in the 400 IM. At the NCAA Championships she placed 32nd in the 400 IM and 44th in the 200 IM. At the U.S. Nationals she placed 32nd in the 400 IM, 40th in the 200 IM, and she was part of the 800 Free Relay team that took 34th. At the end of the season Ja-Neil received the team's Most Valuable Female award for her ability to swim any event at any time. 2004-05 (Freshman): Bragg earned Co-Big West Female Athlete of the Year honors after winning individual championships in the 200 and 400 IM, while setting both a school and meet record in the 400 IM with a time of 4:15.94. For the season, Bragg earned two Big West Female Athlete of the Week Honors and put her name in the record books in four different events. In NCAA competition, Bragg finished 62nd in the 200 IM, and 40th in the 400 IM. She finished third in the 400 meter IM (4:53.32) at the prestigious Janet Evans Invitational in June, and her time qualified her to compete in the 2005 U.S. Nationals and the 2008 Olympic Trials. At the U.S. Nationals, Bragg placed 59th in the 400 IM and 52nd in the 200 IM. High School: Ja-Neil attended Sierra High School in Manteca, Calif., where she lettered all four years in swimming. Following her senior season, Bragg was a High School All-America in swimming. She helped the Timberwolf to four straight undefeated seasons. In 2004 and 2003, Bragg was the Modesto Bee Swimmer of the Year and was Tri Valley Herald Athlete of the Year runner-up. Personal: Ja-Neil Bragg was born in Santa Rosa, Calif., and is the daughter of William and Karen Bragg. Ja-Neil has four siblings, Michelle (35), Shyla (23), Kenneth (17) and Tanner (15).
