
Pacific Drops Its Opening Match Of 2008 To No. 43 UNLV

Las Vegas Nev. - The Pacific Tigers women's tennis team opened their 2008 dual-match season today, Friday, Jan. 25th with a 6-1 loss to former Big West Conference opponent and 43rd-ranked UNLV Rebels. The UNLV Rebels captured all three of the doubles matches 8-1, 8-6, 8-3 earning one team point. At the number one position in singles Jolanta Twarowska (Hamburg, Germany) lost to Elena Gantcheva 6-2, 6-0. Svenja Arens (Bensberg, Germany) was defeated 6-1, 6-0 by Kristina Nedeltcheva at the number two position. Olga Gumenyuk (Kiev, Ukraine) lost to Katy Williams 6-3, 6-3. The bright spot came for the Tigers in the number four match when Kateryna Nezhura (Kiev, Ukraine) defeated Nikol Dimitrova in a tiebreak 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-8). Clara Schuhmacher (Zaragoza, Spain) lost at the number five position 6-0, 6-3 and Sasha Fisher (Southampton, Bermuda) was defeated 6-0, 6-3 at the number six position.
