
Tigers Drop Tough Battle With No. 67 Cal State Northridge, 4-3

Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific women's tennis team dropped a tough 4-3 decision to No. 67 Cal State Northridge on Saturday, Feb. 23. The loss moved Pacific to 2-6 on the season and 0-2 in Big West Conference play. Cal State Northridge, meanwhile, moved to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play. Forced to play the match indoors by inclement weather conditions, the Tigers and Matadors staged an epic battle. In the interest of time, the singles matches were played first. Back and forth the overall match went as Cal State Northridge and Pacific traded points until the Matadors held a 3-2 lead. The only position not completed was the number five singles battle between freshman Kateryna Nezhura (Kiev, Ukraine) and the Matadors' Nina Jaworowski. Having already dropped the first set 5-7, Nezhura trailed 5-2 in the second set. Amazingly, she rallied to for a tiebreaker in the second set and claimed the second set 7-6 (5). In the third set tiebreaker, Nezhura once again toppled long odds, coming back from a 6-2 deficit to take the tiebreaker, 7-6 (6). Unfortunately, Pacific dropped each of the three doubles matches and dropped the match, 4-3. The Tigers will be back in action tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 24 as the Tigers travel to San Francisco to face the San Francisco Dons at 1 p.m. 2008 Pacific Women's Tennis Results
