Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific women's tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss to conference rival UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, April 1st at the Hal Nelson Tennis Courts. With the loss, the Tigers fall to 6-10, 1-4 in the Big West, while the Gauchos improve to 8-6, 4-1 in Big West action. Pacific, playing without their No. 1, senior Vana Mrazovic (Belgrade, Serbia & Montenegro) due to injury, was forced to shuffle the lineup in both singles and doubles, losing the doubles point to begin the match down 1-0. UC Santa Barbara took down the first two singles matches to finish, the No. 4 and No. 1 positions to take a 3-0 before Pacific answered back. Moving up to the No. 3 spot, junior Helen Schneider (Dernbach, Germany) defeated Charlotte Scatliffe 6-3, 6-4 to pull Pacific to within two at 3-1. At the time of Schneider's point being posted, the Tigers were ahead in two other matches one game to none, and trailing in a third match but with an advantage in game two. The Gauchos turned it on, making a comeback in game two of the No. 5 singles to win that point, and making two comebacks in the matches they trailed at No. 2 and No. 6 singles, forcing and winning the super tiebreakers to take home a 6-1 victory.
