
Tigers continue play at the Cal Invitiaonal

Berkeley, Calif. - The Pacific women's tennis team continued action at the Cal Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 29. Junior Clara Schumacher (Zaragoza, Spain) entered Saturday's action as the only Tiger remaining in the main draw as she advanced to the semi-finals of the White Flight after defeating Kathryn Malec of Saint Mary's 7-6 (4), 7-5 on Friday. Unfortunately, Schumacher fell short to Bobbie Englert of Cal, 6-4, 6-3 in Saturday's contest. Several other Tigers continued play in the consolation brackets, highlighted by junior Jolanta Twarowska (Hamburg, Germany), who snagged a win in the singles consolation round of the Gold Flight. Twarowska defeated Florence DeVrye of Nevada, 6-1, 6-4. During the same round, sophomore Svenja Arens (Bensburg, Germany) dropped behind Deborah Armstrong from Long Beach State 6-3, 6-2. In doubles action, the Pacific pair of freshman Olga Gumenyuk (Kiev, Ukraine) and Twarowska defeated Cecilia Gratian and Emma Taylor of San Fransico, 8-2 in the Gold Flight consolation match to advance to the semi-finals. However the Gumenyuk and Twarowska duet fell short to Jacqui Haskett and Tinesta Rowe of Fresno State, 8-3. Action in the Doubles Blue Flight Consolation saw the duo Schumacher and sophomore Sasha Fisher (Southampton, Bermuda) defeated Jessica Kapoor and Nisha Dixit of San Fransico, 8-3 to advance in the semi-finals. The Tiger pair (Schumacher/Fisher) fell to Joyce Martinez and MelisaValenzuela of Sacramento State, 8-3. Pacific will conclude action at the Cal Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 30. Twarowska remains alive in the consolation round of the Gold Flight Singles Bracket. SINGLES RESULTS
